Call to Action – SHIP Funding February 2018

The Florida House of Representatives has proposed zero funding except for Hurricane Relief in 2018-2019 as part of the State Housing Initiatives Program (SHIP). Hurricane relief is very much needed but additional funding is needed to support other housing programs in Florida! To advocate to the House to keep this funding intact, email your representative (find your member here). You can send them your own message or use the one below provided by the Florida Housing Coalition:

Dear Representative _____________:
The residents of Duval County, including our workforce, our elderly and special needs populations, need affordable housing. Our employers and our economy need affordable housing. We thank our Senators for a budget that uses all the housing trust funds for housing; no sweeps.
We urge you to not sweep the housing trust fund monies and join the Senate in using all the housing funds for housing. Please help your constituents by speaking up in favor of using housing funds for housing – we are relying upon you.

Here’s the good news! The Senate has proposed FULL FUNDING for all housing activities. You can send them your own message or use the one below provided by the Florida Housing Coalition to thank them and stay committed (find your senator here).

Dear Senator __________:
The residents of Duval County, including our workforce, our elderly and special needs populations, need affordable housing. Our employers and our economy need affordable housing. We thank our Senators for a budget that uses all the housing trust funds for housing; no sweeps.
We urge the Senate to hold firm to its position; we will encourage our House members to stop sweeping the housing trust fund monies and join the Senate in using all the housing funds for housing. Thank you for helping your constituents and the communities you serve by using the housing trust funds solely for housing.
