HabiJax Recognizes Former President Jimmy Carter

It is with heavy hearts that we at HabiJax mourn the passing of former President Jimmy Carter. President Carter, a longtime advocate for affordable housing, first volunteered for Habitat for Humanity in 1984. Since then, President and Mrs. Carter joined 104,000 volunteers in 14 countries to build, renovate and repair 4,390 homes as part of the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project.

HabiJax will never forget the major Carter Work Project that assisted Jacksonville families. In 2000, President Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, generously offered their time and resources to assist with the construction of the Fairway Oaks community. This partnership with HabiJax resulted in the building of 101 single-family homes in just 17 days.

During that project, President Carter himself worked alongside our volunteers and the deserving families who purchased their homes in Fairway Oaks. His leadership and hard work inspired all of us and served as a reminder of the importance of giving a hand up to those in need.

President Carter’s commitment to improving the lives of others extended far beyond his time with Habitat for Humanity. As a philanthropist, he devoted his life to creating a more just and equitable world, fighting for public health standards, mental health care and human rights.

We are grateful for the opportunity to have worked alongside President Carter and to have witnessed his unwavering dedication to making the world a better place. His legacy of compassion and service will continue to inspire us for years to come.
