Volunteer Appreciation Week: New Volunteer Matthew Bennett

Posted April 29th, 2017 by Angela

“…I largely come for the breath of fresh air that surrounds every project.”

New volunteer Matthew Bennett works on caulking a new HabiJax home.

That’s a quote from one of our regular volunteers, Matthew Bennett. Matthew has been actively volunteering with our construction builds since the start of 2017. He’s a true Jacksonville native, and is currently pursuing both his real estate license and Ph.D. He loves learning anything regarding real estate and still makes time to volunteer weekly with HabiJax. He feels that building a house is “as good as it gets.”

Matthew chose to volunteer with HabiJax, because he loves our “mission and everything we stand for.” His favorite project so far, is installing vinyl siding and he looks forward to helping on a frame day project for a future homeowner soon. A memorable experience was the day a homebuyer reached 300 hours of sweat equity. Matthew said, “she had a grateful and ecstatic smile when I told her that I helped build her house!”

He feels that, “everything is memorable when you come out to volunteer.”

Matthew encourages others to volunteer with HabiJax. He has had a positive experience volunteering and feels the staff are open to feedback to improve the experience. He feels that,  “the building experience is something that will create memories when you work alongside a future homeowner.” When Matthew isn’t volunteering or studying, he enjoys reading books and working on large projects.

We appreciate Matthew’s dedication to HabiJax, and his willing, can-do attitude out on the construction sites!
