The board of directors for Habitat for Humanity of Jacksonville, Inc. is pleased to announce Monte Walker will be appointed the organization’s new President & CEO effective July 27, 2020. Walker will be succeeding outgoing President & CEO, Mary Kay O’Rourke, who as previously announced will be retiring effective December 31, 2020 after more than 23 years of dedicated service to the organization. Mary Kay will work with Monte during their time together to create a smooth transition of responsibilities and help bridge community partnerships.

Monte and his wife Pam have been married for thirty-four years and have two beautiful teenage daughters, Alexandra and Autumn.   He is a native of western North Carolina and obtained his bachelor’s degree in business management from Gardner-Webb University.  While at Gardner-Webb, Monte captained the football team during his junior and senior years and served as a member of the student government and President’s council.

Monte’s professional experience is extremely broad and diverse having served as a senior executive with the Coca-Cola Company as well as having held senior leadership positions in the nonprofit sector with Habitat for Humanity International, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Gardner-Webb University and Alliance Defending Freedom.  In his spare time, Monte enjoys watching sports, golf, music, reading, and spending time with his family and their two Labrador retrievers.  Monte and his family currently attend First Baptist Church in Landrum, SC. and will be relocating to Jacksonville from Mill Spring, NC.

“I am very honored and humbled to have the opportunity to lead this extraordinary organization as we look forward to our next chapter of growth and service to families in the Jacksonville community.  This is truly a team that consistently delivers on its mission of putting God’s love into action by bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope,” stated Monte Walker. “Please join me in thanking our current President/CEO, Mary Kay O’Rourke for the incredible leadership and vision she has provided to HabiJax for many years.  We wish Mary Kay and her family all the best as she retires and starts a new season in her life.”

“Monte has a proven track record in both the corporate business world and the nonprofit sector of providing excellent leadership, building strong relationships, engaging community partners, and delivering outstanding fund development results all with a strong personal focus on faith and integrity,” said Malcolm Jones III, HabiJax Board Chair. “We are confident this combination of skills, expertise, and personal character will help us and the families we serve as we build upon the legacy of success created by Mary Kay.”

Please join us as we welcome Monte and his family to the HabiJax organization and the Jacksonville community.
